Supply and fitting of four sets of double-glazed sash windows (two doubles, two triples - doubles upstairs, triples downstairs) to a double-fronted detached Victorian property.

"The process began in December 2022 with Alex Sturrock visiting the property and subsequent quotation containing various options on wood, glazing, fittings, etc. I was informed of the lead time for work of this type at the start and was happy given the reputation of their work. I paid a deposit to indicate my willingness to proceed.

Once the options were narrowed down and accepted, a subsequent site visit from their assessor resulted in exact measurements and the job specification for the fitter. The estimate was for four days to fit the four window sets.

My wife and I were invited to the factory where we were taken on a tour by Alex Sturrock who detailed the journey our windows would take through it. We were also shown many examples of the windows at different stages of build.

The work to build the windows commenced in April 2023 and I received an interim invoice covering the build of the windows.

The work to install the windows began on 2nd May 2023 and took around twice as long as assessed due to some unexpected issues which had been invisible to the assessor. Sturrock's fitter, Mike, is a very experienced guy who appraised the issue well and arranged for modifications to the window sets plus some extra sills which had not been specified. The work was completed to a very high standard on 11th May.

One or two of the upper windows are a little tight in the casement and require a firm pull to open but I'll take that over rattling sash windows! I've been left with a small amount of internal plasterwork repair and some painting to do - not bad considering the amount of work required to remove the old and fit the new windows.

I'm very happy with the work and will be contacting Sturrock's again soon about the final two sets of windows at the front of the house - they look a bit rubbish compared to everything else now!

Replacement timber double glazed bay window and windowsill.

"My property is C listed and in a conservation area so it was important to get a replacement window like for like. I was impressed from the start with the time taken by Alex Sturrock at the initial site visit to discuss my requirements and the options he suggested. I received a comprehensive quotation from Mark who was then very helpful in answering my many questions about design, materials etc. The quotation from Sturrock's was more expensive than others I received but the difference in the level of service and professionalism was evident at the outset. It was not a difficult decision to make to go with them. Mike came to measure up and spent about 2 hours with me as he carried out a full inspection of the existing window and we discussed my exact requirements. Mike installed the window over two days and came back a third day to touch up some external paintwork. The whole project took about 3 months longer than I expected but then I was glad the installation did not take place over the winter months. Throughout the process, Lynne in the office kept me informed and handled the invoicing very efficiently."

New hardwood windows (mix of sash and casement)

"Sturrocks were recommended to us by an acquaintance whose new windows we had seen. We live in an old house with character, our forever home, so wanted good quality, long lasting windows and doors also from a sustainable source and in keeping with the character of the house. From the website, we could see these were craft joiners with a wide experience. We were invited to their workshop where we could follow the whole process from receipt of wood to the final finished product, each stage being explained. A detailed survey of the house was undertaken with the subsequent quotation process being precise and detailed with any amendments quickly accommodated, the focus being on us as the customer. Despite lockdown and supply issues, Sturrocks kept in regular contact updating us on progress. The fitting process was exemplary - very precise with close attention to detail and immaculate with minimal disruption to us by very knowledgeable installers who visited again pre-install to check everything. The windows themselves are nothing short of magnificent, they really fit in with the house, the ground floor being sash and pulley. A really high quality job from experts in their field who we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and are so glad we found."

Replacement of two existing first floor windows with "H" type double glazed units.

"Company very cooperative in finalising type of windows required and providing estimates for the work. There were issues with the start of work when the double glazing units were not accepted and a proposed date of November 2020 had to be delayed until Wednesday 3rd March 2021.

Installation of windows was carried out very efficiently with no damage to existing surrounds with a very neat fit. Unfortunately one glazed unit was cracked in transport and was replaced on the Friday.A handle was replaced so that both would be right handed and a joiner returned to facilitate movement of the sashes which were very unyielding."

"Estimator arrived when agreed. Clear estimate sent to us. On agreement, 20% deposit was requested. COVID-19 meant we had to wait a bit longer than expected but the quality of the workmanship is outstanding. The team that fitted the windows worked hard to complete the project in just two days. Minimal mess, restoration of all original facings, explanation of everything being done and very cheery."

"We found everyone we dealt with at Sturrocks to be very helpful and professional. They were very accommodating with our relatively short timescale (relating to availability of scaffolding) and the work they did was of a very high standard.

From assessing the job through to completing the work, everyone turned up at the times promised and completed the job as agreed, keeping us informed of how things were progressing...which in our experience with other tradesmen, doesn't always seem to happen!

"Very happy with the work, there was a significant delay from getting a quote to being able to order the windows due to planning timescales nothing to do with Sturrock’s. however the quote was honoured and the windows made and fitted within a reasonable timescale. The communication from the company was very good and all the people we dealt with were very professional and helpful, especially providing suitable sectional drawings of the windows which planning required at no extra cost."

Re-modelling of the front porch in a semi-detached stone house. Replacing most of the original structure, with new front door and double-glazed window units.

"Sturrock's did a very good job of replacing our old porch, and the standard of workmanship was excellent, living up to the claims made by the company.

The work was done to a finally agreed timetable, and was carried out efficiently.

I am very happy to recommend this company to others. The costs are admittedly quite high, but provided that is acceptable you will be guaranteed an excellent result."

"I found the service provided very personal and felt my job mattered to the company. I met the owner directly who paid great attention and took time to explain the process and construction of the products. I was so pleased that I had picked a small local business instead of a bigger national operation. The price was not significantly different and the quality was far superior. I felt I could trust the company to do a good job as they could demonstrate experience in the type of job I required. The workmen on site worked hard in all conditions to get the job done on schedule with minimum disruption. I had to leave them keys while I was at work and I felt I could trust them in my home. The quality of work and experience was evident. the windows look great and authentic and my house feels secure and warmer.
I am so pleased I chose this company and would highly recommend them.

Replacement of 5 Victorian sliding sash double-glazed windows with Accoya. Work involved replicating intricate details which were unique to original windows.

"This company is a very rare gem in the joinery world, providing meticulous attention to detail throughout the process from the initial visit, firming up the design and plans, through to the installation. They listened carefully and acted on all of our comments.

Very rarely do we write a review of such a positive nature but in this case it is fully deserved.

Mr Sturrock personally visited the site and understood from the outset that we were seeking not only absolute quality but also wished to preserve the Victorian heritage of our property.

Sturrocks took time to show us around their state-of-the-art production facilities and showed us various window options available eg double glazing, window furniture etc.

Sturrocks kept us fully informed at all stages. Their two joiners/installers were highly professional and pleasant to get on with. They discussed any necessary tweaks that arose during the course of the work on dismantling and reassembling Victorian bay windows.

Installation of a replacement stair window. Manufactured in hardwood and styled to match previously installed door and windows in the house. As with the previous work the quality of service was excellent. The installers were skilled and professional and the work was completed with minimum disruption.

"Sturrock were originally recommended to us by a mutual friend who is in the property trade. They were described to us as a quality business. By no means the cheapest but one of the best.

We had substantial work done to replace two bow windows and a front door about two years ago and were so pleased with the work that we had this further work done.

I would happily recommend Sturrock for the quality of their work and the efficiency of their staff. As I said they are not cheap but you get what you pay for and I am delighted with everything the have done for us.

"Sturrocks were thoroughly professional throughout. They surveyed the location for the new patio door, took all required dimensions and made recommendations based on the intended use, location and environmental conditions. The salesman assisted with the selection of materials, glass, ironmongery and staining colour. I was kept informed of the progress with the manufacture of the patio door as required and the fitting was scheduled for the earliest opportunity once it was ready.
