" Wow! I couldn't have asked for a smoother house move. Steve who came to do my quote was clear on everything, no hidden costs. I had to query a couple of things prior to life, mainly to do with parking at destination and they provided excellent advice. The move day was completely stress free! The guys arrived punctually and set about loading lorry with my belongings. They took great care of everything and were friendly which put me at ease. No problems at all to my relief. Offloading as destination was as careful and efficient. They re-assembled my bed and set about building some furniture I had bought but not unpackaged. Kept them refuelled with plenty tea and biscuits which I know they appreciated. They even took what packaging they could away. What a brilliant experience and I would highly recommend using F Smith & Son for any removal needs you may have. "

We moved from a 2 bedroom second floor flat in Putney to a 3 bedroom house in Tooting. The only complications were an upright piano (100kg). And a long walk outside to the removal van involving a flight of steps at the Putney end.

" F Smith provided a thorough and well-considered quote just over a week or so before moving day. They weren't the cheapest or the most expensive but they were the firm that gave us most confidence they understood what we wanted and could deliver.

We went for the packing option which they did a few days before (because of the bank holiday). They arrived promptly on the packing day and took the morning.

On the moving day, they arrived promptly and were finished by lunchtime. There were waiting for us at our new place in Tooting - having got there before us! Unloading was equally stress-free.

The F Smith people throughout were professional and friendly. I couldn't recommend them highly enough! "

" Smith and sons were excellent. We actually hired Bushells who had recently been bought by Smith and Sons. Adrian came to give us a quote and was very very thorough. He explained the process step by step. What we particularly liked was that Adrian was very realistic about timings and how long things would take. He also drew our attention to how to prepare for the day - leaving a sheet about what to do in the run up of what not to forget like packing an overnight bag in case not everything was unloaded the first night. He was able to answer every question we had including insurance, if the industry was regulated, which industry standards applied etc. We were impressed. He also gave us invaluable advice about parking suspension and other things.
On the day of the packing, the group of packers arrived very punctually and were paid great attention to detail and our belongings - always checking with us if in doubt (like - are you sure you don't need this medicine). On the day of the move they were equally great. What we loved was that there was a 'manager' for the day. A group come to finish packing and load the van but only one manager plus another drove down. The manager was our point of contact and we had his mobile number in case of problems on the other side.
We would recommend smith and sons every time. they were amazing. "

My move was from London to Manchester, and included a pre-move packing service. I had one room''s worth of things to move, of which only three pieces of furniture, but also lots of boxes with books and similar.

We're disappointed to hear that we didn't didn't manage the clients expectations with the removal service delivered in April 2017.

FSS Response 1: We commenced the pre-packing service the Thursday before good Friday with the intention of carrying out the removal service on Easter Saturday. On the pre-packing day, Our client asked our packer to leave out his expensive shoes which he wished to pack himself, this was done, however when we arrived 2 days later to carry out the removal we found that the client had not packed these items and unfortunately was not around much whilst we were loading at the origin address as he was watching over the vehicle to maintain the security of the load (which had been pre-agreed). Rightly or wrongly, in an attempt to assist the client as he could not be in 2 places at once, our removal crew assisted by completing the last-minute packing.

FSS Response 2: On the pre-packing day, our packer asked the client to separate his personal possessions and indicate to him what was not to be packed. Unfortunately, the client did not separate the train ticket from the goods that we had been asked us to pack which led to the situation of the ticket being packed within one of the many boxes. On the moving day, our crew member spent a good 45 minutes looking for the ticket but to no avail. Without undoing all the good work that had already been done in packing all of the client’s goods, the comparison being drawn to finding a needle in a haystack.

FSS Response 3: Having a wealth of experience behind us, one would not sit here and declare that mistakes don’t happen. Communication errors can slip in when carrying out removals, we do not ask clients to label every item that is to be moved as this would be laborious and labels can leave sticky residue on the goods which in turn has its own problems. These errors are usually minimised by our crew clarifying their understanding with the client throughout the loading process. As mentioned above this was not made easy because the client could not be in two places at once. Once the mistake had been brought to our attention we returned the bed to its original location and did this with a smile. In our opinion mistakes like these can be rectified easily so surely the focus should be more about how we dealt with the situation.

FSS Response 4: The damage to the file box most certainly occurred during the removal however it was certainly not dropped by our crew, having seen the damage it is possible to have occurred during the 230mile Journey to Manchester. The client brought this to the attention of our crew member and said that he thought that he had taken the item into his flat so we may not have seen the damage to be able to bring it to his attention. As the client points out, the value of the item falls below the very low £50 insurance excess therefore no insurance claim would have been possible. At no point were we made aware of a scratch to the bookcase at the time of delivery and no contact has been made by the client since the delivery. We strive to reduce the risk of damage to our clients good however due to the line of work being a manual handling job we cannot eliminate this risk. As a gesture of good will the Company has refunded £50 to the client such that he can replace his file box and go some way to compensating him for the damage to the bookcase.

FSS Response 5: The precarious narrow plank that the client refers to is in fact an industry standard purpose built aluminium ramp which is used to assist our crew in manoeuvring goods on or off the vehicle. Our crew has a wealth of experience in handling goods within properties and on / off our vehicles. What may look to the untrained eye as being precarious is actually second nature to our crew.

Summary: We’re disappointed that the client felt that our service was not up to scratch. Our client was certainly not treated any differently to other clients, our crew waited patiently at the destination address for the client to arrive and are well briefed in delivering a service that puts the client first. Unfortunately the scope of the removal was such that the time that we spent with the client was quite short in the grand scheme of things. 2 hours loading at the origin address, 4hours and 10 minutes travelling to Manchester, 30 minutes waiting for the client to arrive at the destination address, 1 hour and 15 minutes unloading the vehicle and a further 4 hours and 40 minutes travelling back to our depot. Understandably this may be perceived to be poor value for money but our crew spent 14 hours servicing this removal (excluding the packing service) which seems to have gone unnoticed.

Me and my family were moving out of our rented accommodation and into our newly purchased family home so it was a very exciting but stressful time. We had trouble getting some of our furniture into our rented house so I had some concerns with getting it back out but everything was taken out with ease and I did not once have to worry about anything, everything was taken care of by my friendly and efficient removal men.

" From the start of having my home survey carried out, to then booking my date, picking up my moving materials and making my final payment just before my move date, everyone that I dealt with and spoke with were always friendly, extremely helpful and professional and made us feel as if we as clients and our move were really important to them.
On moving day my 2 friendly removal men arrived promptly and eager to get on with the job. They were professional yet friendly and they basically got on with everything with such ease which enabled me to get on with what I needed to do without having any extra stress or pressure.
On reaching our new house, my removal men were most patient as we were having some new carpet laid and they waited patiently for the workmen to finish before carrying on with the unloading. Again they got on with the job with no fuss and placed everything where it was supposed to go and everything ran extremely smoothly.
I hope I don't move again for a long time but I would not hesitate to use F Smith and Son again and would highly recommend them as you really do get a professional yet friendly service from this family run business, the whole process was made easy and saved me a lot of stress for sure! "

" The whole experience was extremely stress-free. From the first email contact to the removal itself, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. They explained the service they offered and how things like the insurance worked and what I should expect on the day. The removal day itself went without any hitches, and the staff were cheerful, polite and very helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending F Smith and Son very highly, and will use them again in the future. "

" Initial quote with a home visit was very clear, and prompt. The move out was very well handled and the team were very friendly. The storage invoicing was clear and it was easy to pay.
