Care and Repair Edinburgh

Care and Repair provide a wide range of practical services and advice to assist elderly and disabled people in Edinburgh to live in their own homes in more comfort, security and with greater independence. The services include work which may be carried out either by our in-house teams of volunteers and experts, or by our trade referrals service.

If the work you need cannot be done by our in-house services, we can give you the names of contractors who can help. The tradespeople on our list have been asked to provide references and relevant insurance. They are independent contractors who will carry out the work for you. We do not set charges and the contract is between the contractor and yourself.

Care and Repair Edinburgh Trade Referral

This firm is included on the list of tradespeople maintained by Care and Repair Edinburgh to carry out work for local consumers where appropriate. They have been asked to provide references and relevant insurance and are believed to be reputable, but any contract is between the business and the consumer.

With effect from December 2015, Care & Repair Edinburgh is asking them to collect feedback from all of their customers so that consumers can see the type of work they normally carry out for all their clients, including work that is not for Care & Repair. This will help ensure that standards are maintained and will help consumers to judge which firm may be best suited to their needs. Please visit for more information.

Lead Contractors Association

Lead Contractors Association

The LCA was formed in 1984 to prioritise quality standards in leadwork. The LCA now comprises over 70 specialist contractors committed to providing quality craftsmanship for their clients, supported by 15 associate members supplying materials and ancillary services.

Members may be sole traders, partnerships or an incorporated body and utilise an employed workforce or teams of subcontractors. Regardless of structure, members are required to take full responsibility for the purchase and application of the lead sheet under their control.

All members are required to work to the current Code of Practice (BS6915) and the recommendations of the Lead Sheet Association.

An annual vetting programme provides rigorous quality control of members’ standards, through compulsory on-site inspection of workmanship and design. Every member is graded according to the quality and complexity of work inspected. Anyone failing to meet the standards set is required to withdraw from membership. Grades are published annually in the Directory of Specialist Leadwork Contractors.

Every member guarantees their work for 25 years, the guarantee being administered by the LCA and insurance supported through Lloyd’s of London, on jobs over £2,500. The LCA is controlled by an elected Council of Member’s representatives and administered by an appointed Secretary, from an office base in West Sussex.

National Federation of Roofing Contractors

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors is the UK's leading trade association for the roofing industry. Its Mission Statement is 'to promote trade members to gain more work and through this achievement to help Associate members to sell more products and collectively to achieve quality installation.'

This is achieved through a comprehensive Technical Advisory Service open to members and their clients; a series of business services for members; close co-operation on training and recruitment matters with the Construction Industry Training Board on behalf of members; a formal complaints procedure linked to the federation's Code of Practice; and finally the promotion and marketing of members to major clients, major contractors and the domestic market.
