BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - One of the most challenging parts about Garrick McGee leaving UAB is the fact that this is a dead period.

Administrators are not allowed to initiate contact with recruits, though assistants are allowed one phone call per week. Current UAB assistants left behind (Richard Owens, Eric Evans, Brandon Sharp, Kevin Peoples, Joe Henry) might be looking for other jobs. However, plenty of commitments have talked to athletic director Brian Mackin.

Receiver Collin Lisa from Alpharetta, Ga., was one of those. Lisa, who committed last summer to UAB and was offered long before that.

"I know he's probably the busiest man in Birmingham," Lisa said. "He was playing up the recruiting class and telling me how important I was to the class."

Lisa tried to call McGee, but he didn't get a response.

"I'm sure his phone has been ringing off the hook," Lisa said. "It obviously caught me off guard, but I don't have anything against him. You've always got to do what's best for you."

Lisa then said he was reopening up his recruitment. He has an official visit planned to UAB the weekend of Jan. 24-26 and wants to keep that visit. Lisa said other schools were in the mix, but he declined to name them.

"UAB is still very much in the mix," Lisa said. "I still want to take the visit if they don't cancel it."

* JUCO offensive tackle Corey Clements was unsure of what he would do. He is from Birmingham and wants to be at UAB. He was scheduled to sign in February.

* Mississippi defensive tackle Chop Stewart said he talked to Mackin earlier Thursday night. He said he likes UAB, but he would know more in a week.

* Georgia receiver Luke Lewallen said he had talked to current UAB player Jordan Howard.

* Florida running back Aaron Duckworth said he had talked to Mackin.

* Tallahassee defensive back Tusun Young wasn't aware Thursday night that McGee left, but said he was going to call someone.

* Bear in mind that these recruits may not know that coaches can't call them, and they have to initiate contact with the coaches or administrators until the dead period ends on Jan. 15.

* Quarterback Taz Wilson indicated that he was still a Blazer

we've talked about a lot today. I want him in green and gold as bad as anyone. Waiting for a new coach to be hired

-- Tasleem 'Taz' Wilson (@Taz_2_Wilson) * Quarterback Drew Echols indicated he was looking around.

The news I heard today dosent mean I'm decommitting. I'm simply exploring all options before I make the decision. A lot of different choices

-- Drew (@Drew_TEckels) * Offensive lineman Chris Hudson indicated that he was still committed.

Hope all the commits stay strong and stay committed!
