Rear ground floor of house re-configured. Demolish old garden room and downstairs bathroom. Knock through to garage and strip out kitchen. Re-build rear ground floor and fit kitchen. Created open plan kitchen with family and dining spaces. New utility room and downstairs bathroom created in old garage space. Upstairs 3rd bedroom was extended over the kitchen to double its previous size. A new 4th bedroom was added over the old garage. Sky lantern fitted in new flat roof over the extended ground floor and sliding doors to the garden installed. As well as the new part of the roof over the extended 4th bedroom the whole roof of the house was re-tiled

"We engaged with a few builders when we were looking to choose a builder for our project. A friend of a friend had used Greg (Penco Builders) and was very pleased with the work and so we met Greg.

We met Greg a few times to discuss our work. At the end of the day this was a big deal for us and not something we had done before but from those initial discussions we felt very comfortable and re-assured by Greg. Clearly very knowledgeable and he listened carefully to our thoughts, worries etc but was able to take it all on board. Greg provided a detailed quote which he went through in detail explaining every part. We were more than happy to appoint Greg so we signed up in May 2021 with work due to start January 2022.

The work started mid January as agreed. We would be staying in the house while it was done so the first thing they did was built us a functional temporary kitchen which performed its purpose well.

This was at a time that some materials were in short supply but Greg had obviously done a lot of preparation agenda of the project starting as all materials arrived in good time and there wasn’t anything holding up the job. Just before we started we knew we couldn’t source the roof tiles we had originally agreed due to supply issues. Greg gave us alternatives which were approved by the New Forest National Park and thenGreg managed to source these from Reading to ensure we had them.

Greg kept us fully aware of deliveries, when they were due etc, when lorries would be turning up etc. This was a great help as we were able to pre warn our neighbours and Greg was happy to speak to neighbours if ever needed.

Greg gave us advanced warning when he would need decisions form us and rather than us surfing the internet looking at lots of pages he always provided guides and brochures for examples of firms he used before which was so helpful and there was never any pressure that if we wanted to use another supplier we couldn’t.

Greg and the team were here for 5 months and I cannot speak highly enough of them. They would arrive early and do a full day and worked Saturdays. In addition to clearly working hard and being skilled in what they do they are a great bunch, friendly, polite and helpful. The least I could do was make sure the tea, coffee and biscuits were in good supply and again they were always appreciative and nice to chat to them on their breaks.

The work lasted 5 months until the end of May and we would have no hesitation recommending Greg or if we were to ever to do it again I would not hesitate to use Greg and the team. We are so pleased with the outcome of what at the end of the days is one of the biggest things we will ever undertake. We trusted Greg and the team with our home and they certainly delivered. Thank you."

Greg (Penco Builders) and his team undertook refurbishment of our new home. This included the removal of a wall, fitting a kitchen, installing bi-fold doors, moving and replacing the front door and replacement of a very dangerous staircase. We were delighted with the end result. Other work, that we required, which was outside the original contract was carried out (after acceptance of a supplementary quote) concurrently with the main work.

"We were impressed with Greg's knowledge, expertise, attention to detail and positive attitude. The timetable of works, we were given at the beginning of the process, was reassuring. Work was completed to plan. Problems they encountered, which required remedial work, were dealt with, as a matter of course. No questions asked.

Payment was made using 'BACS' and in agreed instalments.

His team were friendly and polite. We were grateful that Greg returned, even after the work was finished, to adjust a door we found was sticking."

Two storey rear extension, internal re-design and front of house re-profiling.

"I would thoroughly recommend Penco Builders. They were fantastic from start to finish. Greg is very professional, experienced and skilled. He took the time to understand what we were trying to achieve while making sensible suggestions about how we could improve our ideas and save costs. He was extremely responsive and dealt patiently with all of our questions both before and during the project. He was clear and honest about costs, timing and issues. That was really helpful to us, as we had not completed a major building project before. He was also knowledgeable about planning and building regs issues and guided us through the process smoothly.

Greg and his team were really hard workers. They arrived at 07:30 without fail every day and worked very hard all day before leaving each evening, having first tidied up after themselves. There was not a single instance of the team ever being late or not showing up. They were completely reliable and dependable.

Greg and his team were a pleasure to have around the site while the work was being carried out. They were unfailingly polite, courteous and friendly. Our kids loved having them on site. They were also very considerate - they even timed their breaks to fit in with our toddler's naps so that they would minimise the noise then. We lived in the house throughout and the Penco team tried hard to keep the disruption to our lives to a minimum (eg Greg kindly constructed a temporary kitchen for us).

The project was scheduled to take 4 months. They started on time and actually finished a week earlier than planned. Greg kept me up to date as the project progressed so that we knew what was happening at all times. Greg scheduled a weekly meeting on-site to discuss progress and next steps.

Greg was clear in advance about the costs and he provided an unbelievably detailed quote. He was happy to revise the estimate a few times while we made changes to the plan before the work commenced. Similarly, Greg was flexible about changes to the plans as we went along. On each occasion, he was clear and straightforward about the costs of the proposed changes. He stuck to his quote on every single occasion so there were no nasty surprises.

The quality of the work carried out by Penco was high. Each of the team did an excellent job, as did the specialist contractors brought in (electricians, brick-layers, etc); we are very happy with the work. Greg was knowledgeable about suppliers and made helpful suggestions about where to source things most cost-effectively. He also helped to design the new kitchen (improving on the ideas of the professional kitchen planners).

Greg was recommended to us by friends (for whom he did another major extension) and they were very happy with his work. I cannot recommend Greg and the Penco team highly enough. 10 out of 10.
