Fitting of an air source heat pump and underfloor heating

Cost: £18000

"From the start Hero did not honor the start date. This was changed for numerous reasons including not having the air source heat pump which was supposed to have been purchased with our deposit. We had emptied our home, took up all flooring, architraves, skirting, removed all doors in readiness for them to start. They then did not start the work. We lived with our house empty waiting for work to start for weeks causing maximum disruption and inconvenience and Hero did not care. We had to reapply for the green homes grant because Hero knowingly let the three month voucher expire causing serious stress and anxiety.

Once work eventually did start problems started to emerge. Incorrect positioning of manifold, incorrect pipe layout, underfloor heating pipes not lined as per standard, incorrect laying of insulation boards, large distance between pipework causing cold spots, hammering in of plastic pipework causing damage to both pipes and boards, substandard laying of self leveling compound leaving uneven floors, pipework uninsulated from the ground, left off valve from hot water tank and left on constant immersion heating causing scalding hot water to come through the taps, underfloor heating pump was not fitted, live wires left exposed at consumer unit by Hero's electrician so any one of the family could have been electrocuted, our copper tank and pipework was taken without our permission at a value of 350, black sludge was spilled onto our carpet and left for us to clean up but left permanent stain, massive pile of rubbish left on our patio (including food waste enticing vermin), set up of system was incorrect (as explained by Mitsubishi), transit packaging left inside the air source heat pump making it very noisy (causing complaints from neighbours and taking two attempts to identify issue), left with no heating until mid November, pipework leaking, pipework bent causing obstruction, connection problems with remote sensors so cannot programme remotely, no warranty given for underfloor heating, warranty for air source heat pump not honored when issued have occurred resulting in us having no hot water or heating in February for weeks - had to employ Mitsubishi direct to resolve issues, pressure in system not at correct level and commissioning of both underfloor heating and air source heat pump not set up correctly resulting in no hot water or heating in winter.

As you can see above we have had constant issues with Hero who do not seem to have the care or skill to carry out this type of work. The Operations Director condemned the fitting of the underfloor heating and said it all needed to come out and be refitted. This was agreed and a date set but a few days before the appointment Hero reneged on their promise. Since our initial complaint in September Hero have refused to address our complaint. They have ignored emails and phone calls continuously and have only addressed the issues they have wanted to address without any discussions with us. We have had to lift our floors continuously causing damage to the locking system.

We feel that this has been a very stressful and upsetting experience. We trusted a Trustmark company which promised us so much to do a professional job but we were so wrong. They have been stripped of their MCS accreditation but are still taking money from customers and are no longer regulated by NICEIC association. The whole family have been affected by this whole terrible experience and we would like to warn others not to be ripped off by this company. They featured on 'Rip Off Britain' and even the BBC camera team were in shock at the standard of workmanship.

Trustmark guarantee "Quality and Workmanship" which Hero Renewables provide neither. How can this company be backed by the Government? Hero do not care how they treat people or their homes, they are only interested in getting your money and leaving others to sort out their mistakes."
