British Board of Agrement

British Board of Agrement

The BBA's role is to protect the ultimate consumer (e.g. the householder, the highway user or those occupying buildings) by providing reassurance to users, designers, insurers and regulators. We do this by issuing Agrément Certificates to manufacturers of construction products and systems and assessing the competency of the installers of many of these.

Our approval process examines the product both at the time the Certificate is granted and throughout its lifetime and BBA Approved Installers are under regular surveillance. We therefore welcome feedback from all users on approved product or installer performance so that such comments can be taken into account during our regular Review process. The validity of Certificates can also be checked quickly using the search facility on the BBA website and we therefore welcome feedback on organisations falsely claiming BBA Approval so that we can take suitable action against them. Feedback forms can be found on the Contact Us page of the BBA website.

We should point out however that the BBA cannot accept responsibility for any particular installation. In the event that you experience a genuine problem with a BBA approved product or installer then you should initially contact the company concerned. For your convenience the manufacturer's contact details are identified on the front page of each Agrément Certificate. You can also contact your Trading Standards office if you feel you have been misled.

National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT)

National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT)

NAPIT is one of the leading Government authorised and United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited membership scheme operators in the building services and fabric sector. There are currently more than 10,000 NAPIT registered installers in the electrical, heating, plumbing, ventilation & air-conditioning, microgeneration and building fabric trades across the UK domestic, commercial and industrial markets.

For consumers this means access to installers who have demonstrated their competence and undertaken to comply with the requirements of particular schemes with regard to quality, safety and compliance.

Responsibility for compliant and safe work lies with the installer; NAPIT's role is to monitor each scheme member and audit that they are fulfilling this responsibility. Installers do not carry out work on behalf, or under the control, of NAPIT and the extent to which inspections and audits are carried out is determined by the various scheme owner organisations.
