Reputations are not built overnight
In Referenceline's view, this track record is more important than the ratings. Don't be impressed by a few old reviews which may not be representative.  Look for firms with a commitment to asking for feedback - good or bad - from their customers.  We recommend that you look for a track record of ratings and reviews in at least 9 of the last 12 months and that you should not be too concerned about an isolated negative review.  Ask the firm for their side of the story.

Good Practice
Businesses have a legal responsibility to treat you fairly, but it's often hard to know what questions to ask or what standards to expect.  They are the experts and you should be able to rely on them to help you make decisions.  These questions explain the commitments that this business has made to follow a code of practice and they will help you understand what you have a right to expect.

You can see how many customers have said "Yes" in answer to each question, but please don't expect 100% in every case.  Nobody's perfect and some customers may not be completely sure about the answer.  It's more important that you understand these questions and discuss them with the business so that you both agree what good service means for you.  A responsible business will be happy to explain the details to you and it's always better to clarify these points upfront to avoid misunderstandings later on.

Edwardian Conservatory

Cost: £17976

"Three conservatories in 18 months
In 2009 we signed a contract with Everest to build a Conservatory. The first 2 attempts had to be demolished due to very poor workmanship and the latest, built in July 2010, was built disregarding issues picked up by my surveyors report.

Failing glass units
Many glass units had failed. On one occasion we had 14 out of 26 in need of replacement. Every time a unit failed, Everest had to strip part of the roof to make a template of the units. The roof was stripped so often that the glazing roof cap seals wore out and the glazing bar ends were badly damaged.

Glazing caps delivered, not fitted and taken away.
We had Lorries delivering new replacement glazing bar caps (about 4 metres long), laid in my front garden for months on end, never fitted and taken away by Everest Ltd. Boxes of new seals and gaskets delivered but again never fitted, just taken away by their fitters. Everest once sent 2 fitters all the way from Scotland to measure two failed units, but on arrival they said they had no time to measure them and went away.

Shattering units.
2015: They replaced all 26 roof Self-cleaning, solar glass units. Allegedly was of poor workmanship and wrong glass. One of the large new units shattered, allegedly due to the amount of sealant and additional quadrant used, restricting the glass movement.

New Roof.

July 2019: Everest replaced the complete roof. Including 26 Solar, tinted self-cleaning glass units as well as the damaged roofs mainframe. Allegedly with poor shoddy workmanship and roof leaks in 5 places. The outer window sealing has wide sloppy bands of sealant, brackets fitted incorrectly etc. Gaps have appeared between the conservatory and the house, allowing wind-driven rain to pour down into the inner sides of the plaster boarded wall down into the conservatory.

We have found some Everest Ltd head office staff to be overpowering with a bullying attitude. My Wife with heart problem waiting for open heart surgery is stressed out with all these issues and is afraid when having to go into the conservatory. Everest Ltd will not send anyone out to make safe and stop the leaks to avoid damage to our property."

Frame pulling away from the wall

Leak from the Muntin bar which joins the windows

Poor lead flashing and wrongly cut beam

Quadrant and chunks of plastic wedged in

Shoddy workmanship

Sloppy sealant
