Live at 9 with Kevin Scarbinsky: College football's very serious silly season starts with a bang Alabama's Nick Saban (left) and Tennessee's Lane Kiffin shake hands at their one meeting as head coaches Oct. 24, 2009, as Alabama beat Tennessee 12-10 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (AP photo)

Blame it on visits to Universal Studios, Hollywood Boulevard and Disneyland during a little business trip to California. After getting tossed around by King Kong, shaking hands, very carefully, with a wannabe Wolverine and having your insides scrambled on Space Mountain - anyone seen my spleen - how can you not imagine the possibilities closer to home?

Can you imagine Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin working on the same staff? It could happen sinceat Alabama and Kiffin needs a strong boss to get the most out of his talents and they already have a relationship.

Can you imagine Gus Malzahn and Houston Nutt working in the same state? It could happen sincewith Garrick McGee accepting an offer he couldn't refuse to rejoin Bobby Petrino, this time at Louisville, and Nutt really, really, really wants to get back on the sideline somewhere.

Can you imagine the entertainment value alone of weekly Nutt press conferences? It's probably too much to ask, but a man can dream, can't he?

The playing portion of the college football season may be over -after losing the national championship game in a wild ride of a fourth quarter against Florida State in the Rose Bowl - but the deadly serious silly season has begun with a bang.

Big-time juniors such as, who was a minute away from being named the BCS Championship Game MVP, are leaving early for the NFL. Big-name freshmen are arriving on campuses as early enrollees. Coaches are changing addresses all over the map.

Just goes to show that college football is always in season, and it's a small world after all.
