February, which is right around thecorner, is both American Heart Month and the annual kickoff to the Go Red ForWomen campaign. What is Go Red For Women? It's an effort to raise awareness ofthe awful toll that heart disease takes on women in America and to giveeveryone the resources they need to lower their risks and fight back.

In honor of National Wear Red Day, whichis less than a month away (Feb. 7), here are three facts about women and heartdisease:

Heartdisease is the No. 1 killer of women in America. In fact, it kills more women each year than all formsof cancer combined. Roughly 43 million women in the U.S. are affected bycardiovascular disease and one woman dies every minute as a result.

Heartdisease is not an "old man's disease."Since 1984, more women than men have died each year from heart disease. This isbecause the as opposed to men. Theycan often be misunderstood, even by physicians.

Heartdisease is more fatal than breast cancer. About 1 in 30 women die from breast cancer each year. About 1 in 3women die each year as a result of cardiovascular diseases or stroke.
