Should CBD, a marijuana derivative helpful in treating childhood seizures, be legal in Alabama? (Poll)CBD oil comes from marijuana but does not produce any intoxicating effects.

One of thethorniest issues awaiting Alabama lawmakers during the upcoming 2014legislative session is whether to legalize a drug derived from marijuana.

State Rep.Mike Ball, R-Madison, is sponsoring a bill that would , orcannabidiol - an oil that comes from marijuana but does not produce anyintoxicating effects.

The bill isnamed "Carly's Law" for Carly Chandler, a child from the Birmingham suburb ofInverness who suffers from a rare genetic disorder that causes violent seizures. Her parents say CBD, which is legal inColorado and a handful of other states, has proven effective at treating severeseizures that prescription medicine cannot control.

.

"If my child was having 300 seizures a monthand there was something I could give them that would cut it down to four, bygolly, this gentleman would be making sure I got it," said Sanford."And I'll be frank: If it meant I had to break the law, I would break thelaw so I wouldn't have to watch my infant child go through something like that.

"If that makes me a bad person, so beit. I think it would make me a great parent, to be honest."

If you werein the Legislature, would you vote to legalize CBD as a treatment forchildren with seizure disorders?
