Shelby County libraries offering free programs on financial planning, coupons, saving for college

SHELBY COUNTY, Alabama -- Various libraries in ShelbyCounty in January and February are hosting an assortment of free programs aimedat helping people better prepare for their financial planning needs.

Inquire at each library for more information about the specificupcoming programs.

Harrison RegionalLibrary in Columbiana: Helen Dean will lead the "Couponing" programstarting at 10 a.m. on Jan. 9. Attendees will learn the basics of maximizingsavings with coupons.

Also at the Columbiana library, Ruth Brock will talkabout the "ABCs of Personal Finance" at 10 a.m. on Jan. 25. Attendees willlearn basic building blocks of personal finance overview, including moneymanagement, saving, and financial goal-setting.

Albert L. ScottLibrary in Alabaster: Ruth Brock will host a program on "Saving for College"at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 9. Attendees will learn where to search for college funds,including grants, scholarships, and matching savings accounts.

Also at Alabaster, Dolores Hydock will host the "MoneyTalks" program at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19. Hydock, a notable storyteller, willpresent an interesting look at money through stories about saving, spending,splurging, learning and ignoring financial advice, and discovering how muchhappiness money can buy.

Ruth Brock will return to the Alabaster library at 11a.m. on Jan. 21 to discuss "Identity Theft." Attendees will learn how identitytheft is defined, warning signs, how it happens, ways to reduce risk and stepsto take if you are a victim of identity theft.

Roy Downs MemorialLibrary in Calera: Ruth Brock will discuss the "ABCs of Personal MoneyManagement" at 6 p.m. on Jan. 13. Attendees will learn the basic buildingblocks of personal finance overview, including money management, saving andfinancial goal-setting.

Jane B. HolmesLibrary in Helena: Ruth Brock will lead the program on "Identity Theft" at 7:30a.m. on Jan. 21. Attendees will learn how identity theft is defined, warningsigns, how it happens, ways to reduce risk and steps to take if you are avictim of identity theft.

Parnell MemorialLibrary in Montevallo: Angela Treadaway will teach the "Ultimate Couponing"course at 6 p.m. on Jan. 28. Attendees will learn the basics of maximizingsavings with coupons.

North ShelbyLibrary: Angela Treadaway will again teach the "Ultimate Couponing" course,this time at 6 p.m. on Feb. 3 in north Shelby County. Attendees will learn thebasics of maximizing savings with coupons.
