Move from suburban Bristol 4 bed detached to rural farmhouse in Wales Estate with parking and room for 13 metre lorry - to 300 metre bumpy track, belongings taken from large truck at end of track, via Luton van up to farmhouse

"We were moving from our home of 27 years, out of the area and into a completely different dwelling, and this is the first time we'd used either a removals firm, and a packing service - we needed our hands held a bit! Matt came to the house to do a quote (rather than a video survey) and clearly explained how they would schedule the work as we were in a chain, but relocating three hours away (this was over three days, pack and load bulk on first day, completion day is overnight stuff loaded and unloaded, bulk unloaded third day). He gave us a very fair price - they quote honestly, no hidden extras, the price quoted and agreed on was the price we paid.

Our last house was packed like a bento box, a place for everything, and every available space used - when the team packed it into boxes, it was an embarrassing amount of stuff - art materials, a lot of books, music, artwork, ceramics, glassware, lots of breakables! - but it didn't seem to faze the men at all 😂.

We also some fragile antique furniture, a lot of stereo separates, and a glass desk - all arrived intact, despite having to be loaded and unloaded twice as they wouldn't be able to get the large truck up the farm track - stuff had to ferried up in a Luton van. This was all planned before, no last minute dramas, no short cuts, just a seamless process.

a little about the process if you haven't used a packing service before ...

Matt dropped off some packing boxes a week before for items we'd prefer to pack ourselves (at my request) - clothes, confidential paperwork, a few sentimental memory lane items, and toiletries - the team handled the rest.
Small word of warning for newbies like us, if you don't want something packed, have a clear zone that's well communicated, the men pack carefully, but are incredibly fast - because they're experienced and work well as a team - a whole house of contents packed and loaded in approx eight hours - it can be quite disorientating if you haven't done this before, but they were really great humoured, empathetic, and mindful that whilst it's routine for them, it wasn't for us - they looked after us well.

When I booked the service, I'd assumed the packing service was a bit of a luxury, now I'd say it was a necessity 😂 - we couldn't have done it without them. Their priorities are to get the stuff packed and loaded so it travels with the least risk of damage, and get you vacated on time - they understand how to reduce the movement based on weights etc - I don't. Left to me, I'd have been overthinking it, and packing based on how it made sense to unpack at the other end. In honesty the unpacking does feel more disorienting, especially in an unfamiliar house, but it's worth it to have your belongings arrive safely. My advice, leave it to the experts and stock up on wine for the other end, take your time 😂.

Our 'new', very old house has steep stairs and low ceilings, and the turning into our yard is tight - the team handled it brilliantly and were good humoured about it, although it can't have been much fun, and it was a hot day. Rob is a fantastic driver, completely confident at whatever the roads (and tracks) throw at him - he tucked up a very large truck in a small village with limited obstruction to other road users - so thankfully no grumpy neighbours - just made the whole day as stress free as a completion day can be.

Moving house

"The lads were friendly and quick at removal.

More care could have been taken when moving my garden pot plants. Many branches were broken on several plants
and one plant was severed altogether, only the stump was left. They also said they would come back for a large box of cd's when collecting plants, but didn't take them, they were left.

I assume all the answers I put no against above would have been in the quote I signed?

I would recommend the company but not if they had a lot of garden plants and I would tell them to ensure all items had been collected."

Arriving at 7.30am they proceeded to load the van. 3 hours and my house was empty . They were quick and efficient throughout.

After getting my keys they put everything where it should be in my new house within 2 hours.

This was a move for my elderly mother from a house to a residential retirement flat. R & J Removals were accommodating about delays in the conveyancing process and remained flexible about this throughout the process.

The team didn’t just move boxes; they showed incredible kindness, patience, and respect toward my elderly mother (even phoning later in the evening to make sure everything was OK).

Moving was a bit overwhelming and stressful but the team completely put her at ease, took the time to listen and placed every single piece of furniture exactly where she needed it.

We moved from South Gloucestershire to Staffordshire.

"We had used R&J Removals when we moved 10 years ago so they were our first option for this move. Last time we moved 10 miles but this time it was 140!

We had lots of date changes along the way prior to exchange and R&J were very accommodating and understanding. This was very reassuring for us and took away a lot of stress.

The actual move went very smoothly. They came and preloaded a lot of items the day before completion, which meant we were able to spend the last day gathering the remaining items together.

On the day they had loaded within an hour and left us to it. We left the property shortly afterwards and met them at our new home.
They partly unloaded the van and returned the following morning with the rest of our belongings.

Throughout the whole process all the staff were polite and courteous and handled our belongings with care. We didn't have a single breakage.

We would have no hesitation in recommending R&J Removals to anyone."

House move from Bristol to the area around Berkeley

"Excellent service from start to finish. We had a big move, which was made much simpler by most of the loading on to the big lorry being done the day before completion. Last items were loaded on to 2 vans on the morning of completion, allowing us to vacate our property by 10.30.

We were delayed getting into our new property until 2.30. However, Matt and his team worker quickly and efficiently, so in just 3.5 hours everything was unloaded.

I requested a packing service and removals to an address not too far away, 33 miles to be exact.

"Dumpit & Scarper is a more accurate name for this company, I've moved home several times over the years and I understand it's a stressful experience but it was made far, far worse by the complete lack of care given to my belongings by this firm. They behaved like they were loading up unwanted items for the tip.

The packing, which was done 2 days before the move was totally chaotic, I was informed beforehand the packing would be the majority of items apart from clothes, food and furniture, I would pack my clothes on the day and use their box wardrobe for my hanging items, that didn't happen.

I trusted them so went out for an hour to give them space to do their job, when I came back it was total chaos, they're removed random items of furniture and when I went upstairs discovered they'd been in my fitted wardrobes and removed all my jeans, they'd left me with just the pair I was wearing!

Because they hadn't labelled the boxes one of them had to look through several boxes on the van to find them. I realised I'd made a terrible mistake choosing this company but it was too late to back out. They'd insisted on payment the day BEFORE the move which immediately raised a red flag but I had no choice otherwise they wouldn't have turned up.

They even took my food from the cupboards and unbelievably packed a cake tin with a freshly made cake in, it would have been obvious there was something in the tin due to the weight but the idiot packed it anyway.

They'd also taken my coats from the back of the front door and all my dog leads and when I asked for them back they had no idea which box they'd been put in so couldn't do it. Luckily I had a jacket in my car but had to borrow a dog lead from a friend, extra stress for me that could have been avoided with a little common sense from the company.

I was intimidated by them, there were 3 men and their attitude was "if it's on the lorry we can't get if off". I'm pretty certain they wouldn't have behaved that way towards a man but as a middle aged single woman I was disrespected at every turn and my requests dismissed or ignored.

The move itself was equally chaotic with no care whatsoever taken with my furniture, you'd think they I'd recently bought an expensive mattress from John Lewis and it was loaded on the van without protection, when I asked for it to be covered I was dismissed with a shrug of the shoulder and a "it will be fine" reply.

The chaos continued at the other end due to the poor or non existent labelling on the packing boxes, most were unlabelled so just got dumped wherever there was a space. Those boxes that were labelled were also poor, K was meant to be kitchen but on opening I found random items that were never in my kitchen. It became evident when I began to open other boxes that this had happened more than I was aware of.

I remarked on packing day that they were like professional burglars, if a box was open items were thrown in without care until it was full and quickly removed from the house.
The breakages have been very high, they broke a handle on an antique chest of drawers, a slat from the base of my metal bed was broken and hidden under the bed and because they refused to protect my mattress it's been badly stained.

As I'm opening the boxes I'm discovering more breakages, glassware put in with no protection whatsoever, just put in the box. A beautiful peony arrangement in a glass fish bowl from Laura Ashley was smashed because it had been put in the box, a wall clock not protected with the hour hand snapped in half. I've not even seen the extent of the damage as I've still got another 15 boxes to go.

There was zero respect shown for my belongings or towards myself, any complaints I had were dismissed with a shoulder shrug and ignored, it was a case of "we've got your money so we don't give a toss" attitude.

Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with a disgracefully poor removal company. I chose them due to the reviews but I suspect they're fake

"The gentleman who came to assess our move and give us a price was very friendly,helpful and reassuring.

The packers arrived the day before the move and worked quickly and effeciently.

On the day of the move the team arrived on time and loaded up quickly, took away all our property and were waiting for us when we arrived shortly afterwards with the keys.

They were very good at taking the boxes and furniture where we wanted and did a thoroughly good job.

Move from 3 storey townhouse in Montpelier Bristol with steep stairs and very narrow street to 3 storey townhouse in Fishponds Bristol. Packing and moving over 2 days plus a challenge when we arrived as the seller had left lots of their furniture, comprising move in plans. The team did what they could and then came back a few days later once the seller''s stuff had been removed to put our stuff where we wanted it.

Moving a Three person family from a Three storey house to a Two storey house 4 miles away with unexpected storage required.

"Due to an error at the start of the chain our "simple" house move turned into a nightmare and RJ Removals were the rock that prevented it from becoming a disaster. At incredibly short notice the team at RJ's were able to organise safe secure storage for all of our possessions as our completion was delayed by the start of the chains lender, they even organised for us to have access while it was being placed into storage so that we could pull out things like clothes in order for us to survive while we waited three days for our chain to complete.
As soon as the team arrived their friendly and professional attitude put us at ease and removed our anxiety completely. I would wholeheartedly recommend RJ Removals as THE choice for your house move and they will be our only call when we eventually move again. RJRemovals certainly made moving house easier. Packing boxes, bubblewrap, wrapping paper and tape were all delivered to my house, I even had to get more boxes as had accumulated so much stuff over the years.

"We are so pleased with the company,reliable, efficient, polite, helpful. If I were to move again, these would be my removal company.

They were very professional, put carpet protectors down, which I thought was great seeing as I was a very rainy day!! Covers for furniture,beds. Nothing was damaged, beds dismantled and rebuilt. 500 sq ft of furniture and house items, some not boxed, transferred from a storage facility to a 4 bedroom house around 25 miles away. Some heavy items and some fragile items.

"Arrived on time and got on with loading everything on two vehicles simultaneously. At the off loading stage the staff were really willing to please, even opting to take heavy boxes to the loft room when we gave permission to drop them on the 1st floor.
