Customer Review

Contacted Williamson Electricals for a quote to complete an electrical installation at my home. James Williamson arrived and spent several hours looking at the job to be able to send a quote. The quote arrived but had a note saying; So not a quote but an estimate! The quote was for, £2240 plus £800 materials. Labour cost allowing 8 days (£280 a day) at 8-10 hours “I work on a £280 a day. It’s normally an 8 hour day, but depending on how far I am or if I need to get certain things finished I work up to 10 hours, this amount also covers my fuel costs and all the other small materials I use. Such as screws, grommets, connectors, earth sleeving etc, etc” We asked to go ahead, many delays before James actually started, at no time was any additional costs quoted or discussed. After being supplied with a consumer unit at a vastly excessive cost due to him having to order it as he was going on holiday, then I supplied all materials.

"After many delays, excuses, from on holiday, going away, flat tyre, van broken, no tools, taking children to Dr, storm blew his poly tunnel down, not well, children not well, an endless list. When he did attend never arrived early, or stayed late.
The only thing that was quick was the invoices and asking for payments.
As we started getting regular invoices by the day we questioned the quote, and reluctantly agreed to a further week’s 5 days’ additional work.
The joiners were waiting to plasterboard, James kept making excuses to attend with the joiners, James said it would cost more if he attended with the joiners, we still agreed to it, after many attempts could get no reply from James, so plaster boarding was completed without him here. When James next attended spent all his time removing plasterboard to sort his wiring out.
The job was slow, work was slow, vanishing into the loft on his mobile, outside smoking, mistakes started being noticed, live wires left in several places, floodlights not level, or only with one screw, light fittings falling off the wall, heavy light fittings fitted to plasterboard incorrectly. Errors made by James were then put right by James, so you pay twice, once to do it wrong, then again for him to put it right. My home is scattered with access panels trying to resolve his mistakes. He kept changing wires, moving them or just connecting them incorrectly.
Having being now charged £8160 and no end in sight, (that’s about 30 days at £280 a day or around 262 hours) we complained.

After a year of waiting for James, got another electrician, who also found so many errors, too many to list, having paid for testing, nothing correctly identified, wrong wire size, cables cut off and live, missing cables, circuits mixed up, kitchen sockets wired with upstairs, overloaded circuits, bad taped up joints, cables not clipped, 20 new Led floodlights all damaged by suspected high voltage test, Wiring wrong, inside lights connected to outside lighting, lighting cables deliberately moved to wrong place, separate cables put into the fuse box, cut corners with cables, failed to remove old supply cable from the meter,

To say the job was a disaster is an understatement, it’s just a three-bedroom house, not a mansion, others say it’s a few days’ job, especially as the property was stripped to bare walls and lofts were accessible.
At no time were any increase in hours, cost discussed or agreed, after pressing we had no choice to agree another week, but the charges way exceeded this.
To round up, Williamsons Electricals in Angus, is unreliable, unprofessional, the work is substandard, the charges excessive and progress and work slow to enable charging more.
As when suggesting arbitration James did not respond left with no option now but to take legal action.
I have all the records, e mails, text messages, photographs of this as required.
