Bungalow roof re-tiled and new roofline including soffits, facias, gutters and down pipes. Scaffolding and also two replacement Velux windows added.

"We choose Kevin Aitken and his team due to the excellent reputation they have gained in our area and we were not disappointed. We fully expected 3 weeks for our job but as soon as the team started they did not let up and completed in 8 days. Whole team were polite and just got on with the job. Any small requests were dealt with promptly without fuss. We are very happy with the result and our property looks like new. Thank-you to Kevin and the team. Highly recommended!"

Full roof replacement on detached house including replacment of gutters and soffit.

"I was put in touch with Kevin through a recommendation of another contractor. Kevin quickly provided a quote and explained the challenge around long waiting times due to current demands on materials and I was happy to wait as I knew it was a big job. Kevin even had his guys help during the waiting period to assist with some leaks I had over the winter on my old roof and this was appreciated.

Although having to wait two years for the job to start I am very happy with the results and have nothing but praise for his team. The team worked very hard during the small heatwave we had in May and worked with me around other works I had ongoing on the house at the time and were very helpfull with suggestions and making sure both jobs could be completed with minimum disruption."

Old roof replaced with a completely new one.

"Workmen very nice and hard workers.
Only downside was the mess that was left. I started to brush up myself and was told to leave it as they were going to do it for me.
Bits of slate, nails and black dust was over onto my neighbours path and left over bits on my driveway. My neighbour wasn’t happy and we weren’t sure about putting our cars back. I’m also left with a driveway that looks filthy, which is up the side of the house too. More work for us.
There was also a lot of sand on my area and neighbours which was put down to cover an oil leak from the skip hire van.
I ended up tidying all this up myself which took a while so I could take advantage of the skip.
I did complain to the skip hire but nothing was done.
Overall the roof looks great but I thought the tidying up after completion would of been part of the finished job.

Good communication as they were delayed due to weather.
Workmen arrived at decent time in morning and always told you. They kept you up to date with process and progress.
Sometimes required access to electricity but safe to leave them with this.
Messy work so careful as can bring it on your shoes into house.
Could improve tidying up but overall professional job.

A bit confused as to why you would mention the brushing up that was still to be done within your review, as mentioned on the phone the full site has a final tidy when scaffolding and skip is removed from site as usually debris comes of scaffold and sometimes from skip when being lifted , on this occasion you beat us too it however you never had to do this…we have never had any complaints in that aspect of things…. inevitably there is also going to be black soot and dust , unavoidable when removing old slates from a roof.

"Kevin and his team were highly professional from coming to quote for the work to completion. There was a wait to have this company carry out the work - initially due to supply chain problems, however I am glad I waited.

The workforce were exceptionally hard working which meant the job was carried out efficiently- but not at the cost of quality. I am delighted with the work and can highly recommend Kevin’s firm."

"Kevin and his guys have a well organised operation.
The guys worked hard all the time on site even through the weekend to complete on time as promised.
There were delays to start work due to material sourcing issues however we can’t fault the work done by Kevin’s firm.
They were tidy and left an immaculate job which should see us with no roof issues for a considerable period of time.

New gutter fitted at back of house, front gutter cleared, checked for water flowing freely, leaf guards fitted, ridging checked, lead on skew oiled and property left clean.

"I was let down when trying to resolve the issue and Kevin stepped in to help. His communication with me was excellent and he arranged to have the work done within a couple of weeks from my first contact with him. His men were a credit to him, turned up when he said they would, went about the job in a cheery, friendly way. Explained everything they did and fully respected my property, leaving it clean and tidy. Would highly recommend him."

Work to orangery roof to redress original faulty installation, comprising removal of lantern light, stripping off Firestone membrane, revealing decking and insulation which required to be renewed and also replacing firring pieces which were not of the originally specified size. After these issues corrected, rebuilding roof and fixing new Firestone membrane and replacing lantern.

"Chosen on recommendation as having specific skills to address this complicated remedial contract with particular attention to the link between the Firestone roof membrane and the sloping tiled roof and the compilcation of the orangery pantern.
Kevin Aitken was pleasant and reassuring to deal with, prompt in his quotation and programmed the work with a joinery firm. He also made appropriate site visits."

Retiling of roof

"Kevin undertook the quote and I received a fully itemised quotation that was in line with others that I had received. I selected Kevin because he was able to name the correct tiles to use and had included in his quote for e.g. a length of timbers that would be included in the fee in case needing replacement. It was the most thorough quotation.
Unfortunately from a timing / work start perspective we ordered the tiles and planned the work just as COVID+BREXIT supply issues hit the construction materials supply chain and we needed to wait 6 months for the tiles, and a further 6 months for works to start due to associated backlogs. These delays were outside of Kevin's control and affected the industry as a whole.
Once the work started it ran smoothly. I was kept informed of changes which included replacement of plasterboard roof liner with new chip board. This did come as a surprise and it is important to check the roof in full before quoting to avoid similar.
A gang of 3-5 people were on site at any time and good progress was made. The workmen were friendly and approachable which was appreciated. The work was completed in a couple of weeks, in line with what kevin had told us to expect. I was also very pleased with the proactive approach of the workmen to checking what we would like to do with a number of pipes that were in the roof, and the solutions that they recommended and were happy to implement. They also supported fixing leaking guttering around a dormer window which was much appreciated. I was also very pleased when Kevin offered to provide plastering for the internals around the velux window we had fitted, due to the length of delay we had experienced."

I recently recruited Kevin for 3 jobs. Two were replacement of roof and ridge tiles and the 3rd job was a 2 day job on a flat roof which required removing flat roof back to rafters and replacing.

"The service provided was professional. Questions answered immediately. From start to finish I was impressed with the whole process. Pictures taken at each stage ... quote, during work and after job completed. I had three jobs.2 out of 3 were simpler (for a roofer anyway!) ... requested a quote at 11am, the jobs were complete by 5pm (tiles and ridge tiles replacement due to damage at 2 different properties).

The 3rd job was weather dependent however this was completed within a few weeks from quote approval. Came with a 10 year guarantee for a flat roof replacement (removed flat roof covering back to rafters and replaced.)

"From arrival of the workforce on the first day, going by their appearance, demeanour and attitude, I was confident I had hired an expert workforce and had trust they were the type of workforce that would find solutions to any problems they encountered (rather than finding problems and then adjusting the estimate).
And as the original estimate was honoured (bar a slight adjustment due to the substantial increase in timber price between estimate and work commencing. (and informed directly about this) I have faith in the integrity of Kevin Aitken and his workforce.
Each day they arrived on time and just got on with it until finishing time, and tidied up on their last day.

Full reroofing of a large house on the Isle of Arran. New slate, chimney removals and extensive beadwork.

"This was a full reroofing job on a large house on the Isle of Arran with the removal of a number of chimneys and extensive lead work. I have dealt with Kevin before and once again he and his team were highly professional in their approach to the planning and execution of the work and straightforward to deal with - there were no surprises. The house is used for holiday rentals so it was important that firm timings for starting and finishing the job were agreed from the outset (with guests scheduled to come in on completion there was no room for overrun). Throughout the job Kevin was proactive in keeping me informed of progress with the work (I wasn't on site) and when the ferry service was cancelled he made sure that I understood that they had plans in place to ensure the job was completed on time. His approach made the experience a lot less stressful than it could have been.
