A move from a 4 bed house to a 5 bed

"Friendly staff and a good sales person, explained everything very well. The removal men were polite and friendly. Generally a good experience, however several small items were broken during the move and the movers failed to inform us, even though they knew, so we had to just find broken things as we went along.
They also inexplicably put an entire box of clothes in a box marked clothes, right at the back of our garage. This meant it took me a month to find them, and I had to buy new clothes, which wasn't helpful."

I had my belongings packed and placed into storage for over a year and then when I had found a new property - my things were brought out of storage and delivered to my new home. My bed was put back together again.

We moved from an almost 3000 sq ft, 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom house in Chiswick to a nearby house half the size. We’d lived in our original house for 40 years. We have a piano and a large delicate antique mirror together with 20 large heavy plant pots of both indoor and outdoor plants.

"We were impressed with Rumsey & Son from the moment Peter sat down at our kitchen table to thoroughly discuss our impending move to the moment we thanked their team profusely for being so efficient, careful and good natured throughout our 3 day move. They even recommended how the furniture should be arranged in the new smaller house.

The move went very smoothly.

"The team arrived on time.

The men worked really hard with humour and stayed in continuous conversation with us as to what we wanted stage by stage.The team of four worked on the first day.

On arriving at the new property they worked continuously until they finished and didn't leave us until 9.30 at night. Three men worked on the second day. I don't know which of the four was called to another job!"

two day short distance move

"The chap that came round was pleasant enough, but the removal men themselves were a pretty unpleasant bunch. There was a lot of swearing and complaining. they went home at 1.30 on the first day, leaving too much to do on the second day. they damaged the staircase on the way out, and broke the cover of my record player by packing it with a heavy lamp.

They were an unpleasant presence in our house and not what I was expecting at all."

Downsizing move from a townhouse to a cottage on a single track road

"The crew were cheerful and friendly, even handling the intricacies of getting a sofa out of a window. They had to use trolleys to unload at the new property, again this was done with no issues, quickly and efficiently.
Every member of staff we encountered, from the initial survey through to the empty box collection at the end of the move, was professional and a pleasure to meet."

5 bed house to larger 5 bed house over 100 miles away with some precious art.

"We had 4 quotes. Two attended our house and 2 were virtual. Rumsey attended. They were the best quote, partly but not wholly because they offered options which allowed us to choose to unpack ourselves, and save on paid time.

I called to confirm and went through everything by phone which was reassuring

Packing was smooth and the team were cheerful and pleasant.

On the day in spite of the previous owners not being ready on time our team managed to get us in and unloaded. They worked incredibly hard in quite hot weather - all with good cheer!

We are almost fully unpacked and apart from one small milk jug completely unscathed. We are very happy."

Complex move, from a large house in Kew to two smaller adjacent houses in Newcastle, one furnished and one unfurnished. Contents of Kew house had to be stored for 4 months before being delivered, because of a catastrophic burst pipe in one of the Newcastle houses. Lots of stuff (too much) to move, accumulated over many years. It took a crew of 4 with 2 large lorries 2.5 days to empty our Kew house and 2 x 0.5 days to put it all into the two Newcastle houses. Price below covers loading, storage, transport, and unloading

"Moving house is inevitably stressful and expensive. The burst pipe was an additional tribulation.

Given all the pressures, the Rumsey team could not have done a better job. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, professional and efficient. Peter, who carried out the initial survey and gave us our estimate, was admirably thorough, patient with our questions, and empathic in relation to our (difficult) circumstances. His colleagues in the Rumsey office, Stuart and Joe, were similarly understanding and helpful. Given that the overall cost was inevitably high, we were grateful that Rumsey did not add to it when it turned out that the volume we needed slightly exceeded the estimate.

The first crew (collection from Kew) was Alan, Gary, Adam and Bert. In the second (transport and delivery to Newcastle) Adam and Bert had been replaced by Pete and Dave. We were impressed by the care and skill with which they handled our effects. As far as we have discovered there has been no breakage or damage (unlike previous moves we have made). These were stressful days for us but under Alan's light touch but careful supervision the stress was kept to a minimum. All 6 crew members were a pleasure to deal with.
